If you follow STEM education and workforce development groups/leaders/hashtags on here, you know that there is no shortage of training and apprenticeship programs in STEM fields, from biotech to manufacturing. I would love to see any longitudinal studies on outcomes. I know there is data on completion rates but is there data yet on retention rates? Or employee attitudes or sense of belonging? Or opportunities for advancement? I hope no one takes this as a criticism of these programs (it's not, I am very much a fan of these types of opportunities)! But as someone who works in higher ed, I am often faced with the question "Why should someone spend 4 years doing a degree vs. just doing a training program?" I am interested in long-term results in addition to just immediate job placement. Comment if you can recommend any readings for me!

As I look back on my career trajectory, I can't help but wonder about the alternate paths I could have taken. If I could turn back time, one decision I would undoubtedly change is my choice of pursuing liberal arts right from the start, beginning from my school days. Embracing this multidisciplinary field would have brought me numerous advantages and enriched my professional and personal growth in ways I could have never imagined. 1️⃣ Saving Time, Embracing Efficiency: By opting for liberal arts from the beginning, I would have streamlined my education, enabling me to complete my studies a remarkable three years earlier. This saved time would have granted me an incredible head start in the professional world. Imagine the additional experience and expertise I could have accumulated during those three years, propelling me further in my career and opening doors to exciting opportunities sooner.2️⃣ Gaining a Holistic View of the World: Liberal arts education goes beyond specialized knowledge and encourages a comprehensive understanding of various disciplines. It provides a unique lens through which to perceive the world—a lens that encompasses not only the technical aspects of one field but also the interconnectedness of society, culture, and global issues. By immersing myself in the study of liberal arts early on, I would have developed a broader perspective, allowing me to navigate complexities with greater empathy, adaptability, and critical thinking.I would love to hear from you. If you could turn back time and make a pivotal career decision, what would you change? Let's share our stories and inspire one another as we navigate the dynamic world of professional growth together. #CareerReflections #EmbracingChange #LiberalArtsEducation # #experience #growth #share #opportunities #career #education #change

Hello everyone! I'd like to introduce myself to the Linkedin Community by formally announcing that im preparing for my bachelors graduation next semester by looking for opportunities in areas of my expertise. I had a quick summary made due to the 3000 character limit. In it I included relevant experience and skillsets relating to each point: 📌Psychology: bachelors in psychology and past experience at an internship in UTEP biotech department with two seperate second-author-published papers.📌Sociology: coursework and personal interest in sociology, also including experience with social work involving the study and improvement of developing low income communities with UPRM's University Institute for Community Development and IAP programs. I also have coursework on topics such as inequality and oppression.📌Journalism: experience working on documenting police brutality with the puerto rico based company: Kilometro0. I specifically worked with data entry and management as well as interview transcribing. I also have a personal interest for storytelling and essaying.📌Activism: Active member of UPRM's CCC (colegiales contra contaminacion) program for plastic waste elimination and recycling, currently contributing through team management and logistics. I'm also an Eagle scout and have integrated my learned effort and passion into all of the roles I have taken in the past If you know of any opportunities or organizations in these areas that align with my experience, I would be grateful to be a part of them and I deeply appreciate any guidance or support on my search.I am open to discussing potential collaborations, freelance projects, or full-time positions that I can be of service to.Please feel free to connect with me through direct message or my personal email gusenrmargau@gmail.com#Journalism #Sociology #Psychology #Activism #Academics #Opportunities #JobSearch #PassionForChange #socialwork #experience #community #management #development #linkedin #internship #projects #logistics #interview #freelance

Is going back to school worth it? Let me know what you think in the comments! 🎒 🤔 If someone were to choose to return to school, are certain majors/degrees more worth their time than others? Committing to school is an incredible leap, especially for those with children and/or full-time jobs. I've noticed that nearly every position requires a degree, though some will consider a candidate with adequate experience. When does relevant work experience become sufficient enough to outweigh a degree?Because it is 2024, I have now accepted that I ignorantly nodded my head for too long at the mention of ToFu, WOM, and GTMs. I may not know every bit of the "lingo" (omg I'm showing my age), but I do know what I'm doing. With that being said, I am considering the leap of going back.Have you noticed a difference in your experience in the workplace? What has your relationship been with education and employment?#marketing #mindfulness #opentowork #projectmanagement #sales

Hey LinkedIn community! 👋🏼Sharing a chapter of my journey that many of us can relate to. I've dedicated years to mastering various areas within Healthcare from patient care to clinical research, accumulating a powerful set of skills along the way. However, the road has taken an unexpected turn. Recently, due to budget cuts and the perpetual degree hurdle, I found myself navigating a new chapter in my professional journey. The absence of a traditional degree became a factor in recent decisions, and as a result, I'm now seeking immediate employment opportunities. 📈 Despite this curveball, I remain steadfast in my commitment to growth and learning. But here's the exciting part: I've decided to confront that challenge head-on. 🛣️ Currently enrolled in Hudson County Community College, I'm actively working towards earning a degree. It's not just a piece of paper to me; it's a statement of dedication and a journey of breaking barriers. The reality is, not all paths lead to a degree, and that shouldn't be a hindrance. 🚫🎓 Skills, experience, and a relentless drive to learn should be celebrated just as much if not more.I'm on a mission to prove that the absence of a degree doesn't diminish the value of what I bring to the table. 💪🏼 And I know there are countless professionals out there facing similar challenges. If you or someone you know is looking for a Healthcare professional with a proven track record and a hunger for continuous improvement, let's connect! 🤝 Your support, insights, and opportunities are immensely appreciated.Let's rewrite the script together! 🌐#SkillDriven #breakingbarriers #NoDegreeNoProblem #careerjourney #professionaldevelopment #jobseeker
