This past Friday, I successfully defended my PhD dissertation to my committee! Achieving the highest possible degree in Media Communication was never even on my radar until about 5 years ago. This was by far the hardest thing I’ve ever accomplished professionally. Returning to the University of Delaware in the Fall of 2020 in the midst of the pandemic while having to be both an instructor and student via Zoom was hard enough. In addition to that, as I begin my dissertation, I accepted a full-time position as the Associate Director for Communication Studies at UD’s Writing Center in the Fall of 2022. There were SO MANY times when I wanted to give up the pursuit of my PhD degree! But, thanks to the unwavering support of my friends, family, and dissertation committee, I was able to finish. More than the degree, I’m so grateful for the friends I made and relationships I renewed during this process. Having three degrees from UD, being an instructor in the Department of Communication, and running our Oral Communication Consultants program is more than I ever expected for myself. I’m so fortunate and proud of where I am! Thank you to everyone who made this possible! #gobluehens!
