📣 Check out this thought-provoking article from Nonprofit Quarterly on Making Policy Work for Rural Communities: The Value of Community Voice. The article highlights the efforts of Partners for Rural Transformation, a coalition of six regional community development financial institutions, in addressing multi-generational poverty in rural America. The article touches on investment gaps in rural areas and outlines key areas where policy can make a difference, such as increasing investment in CDFIs and simplifying requirements to access federal dollars. Let's continue to work together and advocate for rural communities! Read the full article here: https://ift.tt/KIaA9DF

Do you use too much internal jargon on your website or appeals? We have a programmatic model called CFCT - child focused community transformation. It's a proven development model that lifts communities out of extreme poverty. Would I ever use 'CFCT' in fundraising? No, it's internal jargon. I might describe it in a way a donor can comprehend, but I wouldn't use the internal programmatic words we use to explain it.Cutting jargon reduces confusion and friction and enables donors to understand the work you do.

Did you know that sometimes it doesn't take much to help people break the cycle of poverty? A common misconception is that helping a person reach self-sufficiency takes tons of $$$ but the reality is that more often than not it just takes helping them at the most critical time. How? I'm glad you asked.Providing home essentials to a young adult transitioning from homelessness into independent living.Providing adaptive technology to a student with a disability.Providing underprivileged children with enriching after-school programming during at-risk after-school hours. These are a few of the programs that Underserved Communities Foundation funds. Become a UCF Lifetime member for a one-time donation of $10. Yes, that is right. For just a one-time donation of $10 YOU too can give a hand up to a person in need today! This is the call to action you have been looking for to get involved and help a person break the cycle of poverty! A new framework from the Build Healthy Places Network lifts up racial healing as an actionable approach to shift power and center a community vision for health and equity. A new Guide to Racial Healing: The REPAIR Framework for Community-Institution Solidarity in Racial Healing can be used by leaders in the health care, community development and philanthropic sectors to work with community development corporations to determine the most effective ways to rectify past harms done to historically marginalized and under-resourced communities in ways that are both tangible and sustainable. The first day of the Rural Child Hunger Summit event went beyond my expectations in a truly meaningful way. 🌟 What a privilege to hear from speakers from No Kid Hungry who shared their stories about addressing food insecurity and systemic hunger. 🙏Good news? The community-led development approaches to eradicating hunger are working! 🌍 Woot! However, some statistics were so staggering that I had to set aside my notes and listen with my heart. ❤️DYK? Public health data highlights lower life expectancies and higher chronic health conditions among American Indian and Alaska Native communities. This stems from heavy reliance on external food sources, impacting their well-being. 📊 Many in Indian Country import food from large industrial sources due to limited access to quality, affordable groceries. (food deserts/food apartheid) (Those with experience in NYC food security are well aware of the concept of food apartheid.) 🏞️ 👏 to Share Our Strength #NoKidHungry and Save the Children International, for day one of this important food security summit. 🙏 #FoodSecurity #NativeCommunities #PublicHealth #RuralHunger

State and local leaders, led by Gov. Wes Moore, in partnership with Senate President Bill Ferguson and House Speaker Adrienne Jones, have come together to invest in healthier more equitable communities across Maryland. The Engaging Neighborhoods, Organizations, Unions, Governments, and Households (ENOUGH) Act will provide support and resources to address the root causes of concentrated poverty, helping to lift up communities where more than 20% of our children continue to experience the effects of poverty. We're proud to support this program that aligns directly with CareFirst BlueCross BlueShield’s focus on addressing social determinants of health for vulnerable children and families throughout Maryland. Together, we will work to increase community health and safety, provide access to high-quality education, connect residents to career opportunities with sustainable income and access to affordable healthcare, and invest in community resources that enable economic momentum.By equipping local organizations and nonprofits with the critical funding and infrastructure necessary to build effective programs, we will partner with communities to secure a brighter future for our children.Learn more here: https://lnkd.in/eR-sc6uy
