Job Summary: Louisiana State University in Shreveport is seeking a dedicated and dynamic Academic Athletic Advisor and Student Success Specialist to join our team. This combined role is essential in supporting both student-athletes and transfer student-athletes, ensuring they achieve their academic and athletic goals. The ideal candidate will evaluate academic transcripts, collaborate with faculty to identify and implement student support strategies, and provide guidance to transfer athletes, facilitating a smooth transition into our institution.
Key Responsibilities:
- Transcript Evaluation: Analyze and assess academic transcripts for both student athletes and transfer student-athletes to ensure compliance with academic
requirements and eligibility standards.
- Faculty Collaboration: Work closely with faculty members to develop and implement
tailored support plans for student-athletes and transfer student-athletes, addressing any
academic challenges they may face.
- Transfer Student Support: Serve as the main point of contact for transfer student athletes, providing personalized guidance and support throughout the transfer process,
including academic planning and understanding transfer requirements.
- Academic Advising: Provide ongoing academic advising to student-athletes and
transfer student-athletes, helping them to balance their academic and extracurricular
commitments effectively.
- Compliance: Ensure all academic activities comply with institutional, conference, and
NAIA compliance.
- Relationship Management: Maintain relationships with other 4-year and local 2-year
universities to facilitate smooth transfer pathways and stay current on transfer policies
and articulation agreements.
- Support Services Collaboration: Collaborate with campus departments, including
admissions, financial aid, and academic units, to streamline processes and enhance
support services for both student-athletes and transfer student-athletes.
- Student Success Initiatives: Engage in long-term planning for improving academic
advising processes, policies, and assessment practices, and provide ongoing support
and resources to help students adjust to campus life and achieve their educational
goals.
-Monitor Academic Progress: Work closely with the coaching staff of each sports
program to track academic success, monitor class participation/attendance, and
eliminate barriers to successful progress toward degree completion.
Qualifications
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in education, counseling, sports management, or a related field
(Master's preferred).
- Experience in academic advising, preferably with student-athletes and/or transfer
student-athletes.
- Strong understanding of NAIA rules and regulations and transfer credit evaluation
processes.
- Excellent interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced, student-centered
environment.
- Demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion in supporting a diverse
student population.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Education, Counseling, or a related field.
- Familiarity with transfer pathways, articulation agreements, and student success
initiatives.
- Experience using student information systems and advising software.
- Knowledge of financial aid and scholarship opportunities for transfer student-athletes.
- Experience working with diverse student populations and an understanding of their
unique needs and challenges.
